About Us

We are two Medical Students currently studying at Newcastle University. We came up with the idea for SaiL into Medicine on a Friday night – putting our heads together, making a list of our qualities and brainstorming what would be the best way to utilise them in a beneficial way for others. We remember how scary it was back then, applying for medicine – wondering if we were saying the right things in our personal statements, scrambling to find as much information as we could about the UCAT, trembling before our interviews – and so we wanted to make a really friendly, tailored, free remote scheme to help prospective students with their journey. We chose the name ‘SaiL’ due to its peaceful and calm connotations, to demonstrate that applying to medicine doesn’t have to be the grueling battle it is often made out to be (and it’s also a little amalgamation of our names, ‘Sa’ from Samhitha and ‘Li’ from Libby!).

Hi, my name is Samhitha and as we’ve already mentioned I’m a 5th year at Newcastle University. I applied to and gained offers from Newcastle, Nottingham, Manchester and Hull-York, and entered university straight after finishing sixth form. I have previous experience with mentoring prospective medical students on a one-to-one basis, and also conduct an annual presentation on the topic of medical school applications at my old sixth form. I’m also a GCSE & A Level Science tutor and have been for a few years now, as teaching is something I really enjoy. In terms of a career, I am strongly considering Paediatrics as I love working with kids & babies, and General Practice as I love the diversity and commitment to creating longterm rapport with patients. In my spare time, I’m an avid artist and love drawing and painting, as well as baking!

Libby

Hi! I'm Libby and I'm an Intercalating medical student at Newcastle University. When I applied to medical school, I didn't know anyone who had been through the process before, so it was quite a daunting time. I was told I wouldn't get in if I hadn't done x, y and z specifically; most of this was completely untrue! I really want to help others through the application process using what I've learned over the last few years. I applied to Newcastle, Edinburgh, Sheffield and UEA, and received offers from all 4. I love teaching and have helped to run talks at Open Days, school visits to local schools, and a widening participation mentoring scheme. I also tutor A-Level and GCSE students on a weekly basis, which I love. I am considering a career in either Emergency Medicine or Neurology, and in my spare time love going for walks, playing badminton and photography.
